Glastonbury is a festival which lasts for 5 days in Somerset, specifically in Pilton. It was founded by Michael Eavis and Glastonbury Festival takes place on his farm. At Glastonbury, many albums are recorded as well as films. It has been given the title of the largest greenfield festival in the world which means that is is held on a field. Every year, 178,000 + people attend it and every year the number of people increases. Many people working at the festival are only volunteers and do not get paid however, they raise millions of pounds every year which goes towards good causes such as more security and electricity supply at the festival. At the festival, there is a circus, comedy performances and many songs which are performed on stage by various artists. The festival receives extensive newspaper and tv coverage due to the large amount of attendees. There are several stages at the festival, each one managed by an individual company. It takes a huge amount of money to set up each individual stage and the whole festival it self exceeds to millions of pounds. As it is a farm, there are no places to stay at so all the attendees camp for the 5 days and 4 nights. The target audience is teenagers and adults, however children attend the place too, usually fancy dressed. Many of the attendees come in caravans and trailer tents but these are not allowed into the festival. Some people stay at the local Bed & Breakfast however, these are not in walking distance and take some time to get to. Across the site, there are a variety of sculptures and paintings for the people to see and some people also give some money to appreciate the artistic people. Here is an example of the sculptures at Glastonbury. Many of the artists are very creative with their work and these are all displayed around the festival. Many people from around the country do not know how to get to the location of the festival and have problems travelling to and from so special public transport is dedicated to those 5 specific days where it takes you directly to the site. The Network recycling company recycles around 250 tonnes of refuse and around 100 tonnes of waste from the greenfield site every year. Months before the festival starts, preparations start to take place and it is advertised across the whole country. Posters on pubs, online, email and whatnot! These are all the types of advertising methods they use to lure in the attendees. Glastonbury is a well-known festival and a great experience for all.
