The first magazine I have chosen to analyse is a Rock Music magazine. Firstly, the three main colours used on normal magazines are red, black and white and these are the colours used on the front cover of this magazine. The heavy eye-makeup on the girl clearly shows that this magazine is from the rock genre and it could relate to heavy metal music. The piercing on the girl's lip gives us a sense of an uncomfortable atmosphere and the fact that the girl's mouth is open could relate to loud screams which are usually interpreted into rock music. The puff word on this magazine is 'ultimate' and this stands out a lot to the readers. The girl is wearing black, her eye-makeup is jet black, her hair is puffy and black and her piercings and tattoos are black which informs us that the main colour theme is therefore, black. Around three different fonts have been used on this front cover and in my opinion, this is a very interesting idea because it attracts the readers eye and if only one font was used, the front cover would not be eye-catching. There are also two graphics used; one on the masthead itself and one where it says 'win'. Graphics are also very attractive as they hook the readers' attention and makes them want to read more. The girl is looking straight at the camera which is very attractive for the readers and the barcode informs us that this magazine can be brought for a cheap price and read. The fonts are very different to each other and the different sizes make the different words stand out and some words have more importance than others. The masthead overlaps with the model's head but it is very clear to read and understand so there is no difference made. A number has also been used and this makes the magazine more interesting to read. The target audience is girls in their late teen but it could act as a unisex magazine.
The second magazine that I have chosen to analyse is a Pop Music magazine. The main colour used on this magazine is white but also balck and a reddish pink colour has been used too. In this magazine, the masthead is also overlapping with the model's head but the masthead colour is very bright so it stands out a lot as it is very attractive. Taylor Swift, the model, is looking directly at the camera and this has an impact on reader's as it hook's readers to read on. Very little black has been used on this front cover as it is a pop magazine and the variety of colours go well with the theme. Three graphics have been used on this cover; a circle, a heart and a star. The big star at the bottom is very eye-catching and makes readers want to read on and look inside the magazine. Some quotes have also been put on this cover which lures readers as personal opinions are given inside the magazine. The puff word on this magazine cover is 'sensation' because its big and on top of the graphic and it is also empowered from the rest of the words on the magazine. Three different fonts have been used and the model's name and masthead are the same colour, making them stand out. A barcode is also included, again informing us that this magazine can be brought. The target audience for this magazine is teenage girls and I think this theme has been portrayed in a good way. A number has been used inside the star graphic, giving it importance and this way it stands out and makes readers want to read on.
The third magazine that I have chosen to analyse is a Hip-Hop Music magazine. The two singers are looking directly at the camera and they are in front of the masthead, giving them empowerment. There is not much text on this front cover and the font is the same throughout, however the sizes do change. The artists name are bigger and empowered but the less relevant information is in a smaller size. The three main colour used on this front cover are red, black and white which is the same as the rock music magazine. The cross graphic has been used and this is the only one on the front cover. One of the men is wearing white and this theme has been consistent on the cover. The barcode at the bottom tells us that is magazine is also purchasable. This cover is very simple compared to the Pop magazine and the Rock magazine. The target audience for this magazine are teenage boys and adults. This cover doesn't have a lot of information or eye-catching puff words but it is relevant to the theme.
